Every journey begins with a single step, and mine started the day I chose to fully embrace my natural beauty. But this journey wasn’t just about my hair—it was about so much more. It was about reclaiming my identity, finding my voice, and discovering a deeper love for myself. It was about healing the parts of me that had been overlooked, doubted, or hidden for far too long. Growing up, I didn’t feel like I fit into the mold of what society deemed beautiful. Brown skin was not celebrated, but rather overlooked or criticized. From a young age, I learned to stay in the background. When I decided to go natural, it wasn’t a popular choice. This was before natural hair movements gained momentum, and I faced my share of criticism. People questioned my decision, with their faces all scrunched up, saying, “Girl, natural hair isn’t for everyone,” or, “ You should straighten it,” “I don’t know why you would even do that, what are you going to do with it.” Those words were hard to hear, but I realized they were rooted in the same negative undertones I had heard about natural hair forever.........................................
